I remember Ryan Minor was a can't-miss prospect back in the late-'90s. In 2006 I saw him hit a home run in a Lancaster Barnstormers game. Looks like he missed.
Hey Kevin, hope you don't mind me pinch hitting with a few Ryan Minor facts.
He was born in Canton Ohio in January of 1974 and attended Oklahoma University on a hoops scholarship. He was the 76ers second round pick in 1996. Their first round pick? Allen Iverson. Minor never played for the Sixers.
He was drafted by the O's in the 33rd round of the 1996 amateur draft. He debuted with the O's in 1998 and became known for being the guy who started in place of Cal Ripken when Cal ended his streak in September of 1999.
Minor never developed past a part time player's role and was dealt to the Expos for the 2001 season.
He kicked around the minors for three organizations and in various independent leagues before he retired in 2005.
His wife, Allyson, is a native of Salisbury, Md.

Bob - Thanks for the assist! Between Minor and Mark Hendrickson, the O's organization might have a decent pickup basketball team. You know Cal's always up for a game...

I remember when I was little, maybe 9 or 10 or so, I had a birthday party at the Bowie Baysox stadium...
...and the game got rained out.
To try to make up for things, the team offered me an autographed baseball from any player I wanted.

Hell of a signature. Had the ball with me at home watching the game when Ryan stepped in for Cal.
Maybe I should've asked for Jayson Werth.
Shane - You're right about that. Much better than Danny Cabrera's sig.
Justin - Hey, Jayson Werth may be an All-Star, but Minor was a part of baseball history. You did fine.
