Alright, I need to do something constructive after another anemic offensive performance by them O's. Melvin Mora is in his tenth season with the Orioles, and Brian Roberts his ninth. Let's check their progress on the team's all time statistical leader board, okay?

Puts these recent fan favorites in a historical perspective, I'd say. Naturally, none of our current pitchers are making a dent on the all-time Orioles leaders list, but it's worth mentioning that George Sherrill passed B. J. Ryan for 12th on the saves register with his 43rd. Three more and he'll pass the #11 man...Don Stanhouse. Actually, Chris Ray is #10 with 49 saves, and I suppose the door is still open for him to come back and rack up a few more. So, even if the Birds can't right the ship in 2009, you can keep the tally going with every Brian Roberts or Melvin Mora hit...let's hope there are lots of them.
Brady Anderson is our all time SB leader? I guess I really do have a whole in my O's history.
ReplyDeleteBrian Roberts rocks, especially on the 2008 Legendary Cuts card. He looks like an exact blend of Dennis and Randy Quaid.
ReplyDeleteNo, really... Corey Patterson???!!!
ReplyDeleteBob - Yeah, even I didn't realize how far up he was on most of these lists, but when you put in 14 years with a team, it adds up. How else do you explain the appearances by Mark Belanger?
ReplyDeletePatricia - Ha, I never would have made that comparison! When it comes to the Quaids, I'm actually a Randy guy. I think he's hilarious and underrated.
Steve - Yes, really. Really, really. Not a lot of base stealers in O's history.
Yeah, Kevin, you're right. I never think of how long he played for the O's. I spent the second half of the 90's (post strike) pretty much ignoring all things baseball. I checked him at Baseball Reference and thought 'Jeez, that's a whole big block of years with 'Bal'.
ReplyDeleteI imagine Gregg Olsen leads in the career saves categories for the O's because I can't think of any other save leaders.
